Florida Homes Built Before 2002 Don’t Meet Today’s Hurricane Codes. IS YOUR HOME UP TO CODE? GET WITH THE PROGRAM STRENGTHEN YOUR HOME—AND SAVE MONEY DOING IT TAKE THE FIRST STEP

Florida Homes Built Before 2002 Don’t Meet Today’s Hurricane Codes.

IN 1992 HURRICANE ANDREW CONFIRMED THAT MANY FLORIDA HOMES WEREN’T STRONG ENOUGH TO WITHSTAND A STORM OF THAT MAGNITUDE.

By 2002, a stronger statewide Florida building code had been adapted and put in place.

Today, Florida homes are stronger, safer, and more resilient, but there are still many homes that don’t meet today’s building code.

IS YOUR HOME UP TO CODE?

Florida has thousands of single-family homes that were built before 2002 that need to be upgraded. Homes that meet the high standards of today’s hurricane codes are stronger, safer, and more resilient, making them worth more money, easier to re-sell, and easier to insure.

GET WITH THE PROGRAM

Florida will always have hurricanes. The Florida Legislature created the MY SAFE FLORIDA HOME Program to help homeowners strengthen their homes against wind damage.

Money-Saving Grants for Home Upgrades (up to $10,000). Homeowners who have already received their free home wind mitigation inspection are eligible to apply for grant money to spend on home strengthening improvements. That’s thousands of dollars families can put towards making the necessary renovations they need to keep their families safe—and qualify for lower insurance premiums.

STRENGTHEN YOUR HOME—AND SAVE MONEY DOING IT

  • Install secondary water resistance barriers
  • Improve the survivability of roof coverings
  • Install impact windows and/or hurricane shutters
  • Strengthen roof-to-deck attachments
  • Reinforce roof-to-wall connections
  • Install hurricane-rated exterior doors & garage doors

TAKE THE FIRST STEP

Sign up for a Home Wind Mitigation Inspection at MySafeFLHome.com.

The inspection identifies your homes most vulnerable areas and provides a roadmap to strengthening your home that can help reduce damage and save you money on insurance premiums.

Together, we can create a safer Florida and save money doing it.
